Jewellery is, for me, something like a metaphorical membrane that wraps around emotion, identity, memory and other invisible elements.

This collection illustrates my impression of jewellery after three years of study. It’s not simply a tool of communication, as I originally thought when I started my studies.

In fact jewellery is something bigger, more flexible and evasive. It both envelops and invades our body and soul. Jewellery is a living entity; difficult to be domesticated by neither the creator nor the person that wears it. It continues to fascinate me and to have importance in my life.

A membrane makes a border - it draws a line between one thing and another. The collection presented here draws a line of contradiction: a hard body that looks soft; a big presence but light like air; pure white combined with strong colours. These pieces are extension of myself. For almost 7 years now I have been out of Japan. The longer I stay away from Japan I feel more and more Japanese, although people tell me that I’m not typically Japanese anymore. So what am I?

I live on a line between reality and dream, reason and emotion. Sometimes I think that all is under control but in reality nothing is in control.

I want this collection to show this sense of control and non-control. I want each person to make his or her own interpretation of the pieces and imagine something invisible, but also alive. This is what jewellery is for me.
